Overview
ORANO ("ORANO", "we", "us", "our") is an app, operated by its founder Manu Parasuraman, that turns short-form videos and other saved content into summaries, action plans, and searchable knowledge. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the ORANO app, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
By using ORANO, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Apple or Google, or use email sign-in on the website, we receive a unique account identifier and the name or email address the provider makes available. If you use Apple's “Hide My Email” option, we receive the private relay address Apple provides. Older website accounts created without email may have an anonymous account identifier instead.
Content you save. Links, text, and screenshots you share into ORANO (via the Share Extension or by pasting a link directly), along with any notes, tags, or edits you make to them. If you upload a video file from your device, the original file is held only while ORANO extracts its transcript, visual context, and representative thumbnail, then deleted.
Voice recording. If you record a short voice intro during onboarding, the audio is uploaded and transcribed to text so ORANO can personalize your experience. You can skip this step entirely.
AI interactions. Questions you ask ORANO's assistant, and the responses it generates, so the assistant can reference your library and previous conversations.
Usage & diagnostic data. Basic interaction data (which features you use, performance metrics) that helps us keep the app working reliably. If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report (the error details, the screen it happened on, the app version, and the platform, linked to your account if you are signed in) to ORANO's own servers. We may also use an error-monitoring service to help us find and fix server errors. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Subscription & billing information. We receive subscription product, entitlement, renewal, expiration, transaction, and customer identifiers from Apple, Google Play, RevenueCat, and the website checkout provider. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number.
How we use it
- To fetch, transcribe, and analyze the content you save, and turn it into summaries, key takeaways, and action plans.
- To power the in-app assistant so it can answer questions about your saved content and, where relevant, search the web for additional context.
- To maintain your account, sync your library across your devices, and remember your preferences.
- To diagnose bugs, improve performance, and understand which features are actually useful.
- To communicate with you about your account or material changes to the app or this policy.
- To send a small number of service emails about your account: a welcome note and a getting-started tip when you sign up, a reminder before a free trial ends, and a confirmation if you cancel a trial or subscription, with an optional one-click question about why (plus at most one short follow-up). We send these because they relate to the account and subscription you have with us (and, for the feedback question, our legitimate interest in improving ORANO). If you answer the feedback question, we store your answer with your account to understand why people leave.
Emails. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops all of these emails. We do not send promotional or marketing emails unless you have agreed to receive them. Emails are sent from manu@oranoai.com; if you signed in with Apple's "Hide My Email", they reach you through Apple's private relay.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your saved content to train third-party foundation models beyond the ordinary processing needed to generate your summaries and answers.
Third-party AI & service providers
ORANO's backend calls a small number of specialist providers to do its job. The content you save, and your voice intro, may be sent to these providers strictly to generate your summaries, action plans, transcriptions, and answers — never for advertising, and never sold:
- Anthropic's Claude models, hosted on Amazon Web Services (Amazon Bedrock) — language and visual analysis used to generate summaries, project plans, and assistant responses. If Amazon Bedrock is unavailable, the same Claude models may be called through Anthropic's own API as a fallback.
- OpenAI — creates semantic embeddings that make your saved library searchable.
- Groq — speech-to-text transcription of voice recordings and video audio.
- Apify, ScrapeCreators, and Bright Data — fetch the public content of links you save (for example, a video's page, caption, and media) so it can be analyzed.
- Tavily, Exa, and Brave — web-search providers used when you request research or when ORANO needs public reference context.
- A text-to-speech service — reads an assistant answer aloud when you ask ORANO to speak it. Only the text of that answer is sent.
- MiniMax — was used to create a shared library of abstract cover images. Project covers are picked from that library or drawn on our own servers; your project titles and content are not sent to MiniMax.
- Supabase — authentication, Postgres database, and private object storage for account data, derived project images, and temporary uploaded media during processing.
- RevenueCat and its payment provider — subscription entitlement management and hosted website checkout. Apple and Google Play process in-app purchases under their own store terms.
- Apple and Google — account authentication, app distribution, purchases, and platform services.
- Google Cloud and Expo — backend hosting, background processing, and push-notification delivery.
- Google Workspace (Gmail) — sends the service emails described above. Only your email address, first name, and the email's content are used.
We only share what's needed for a provider to perform the specific task requested. Each provider processes that data under its own privacy terms and applicable data-processing agreements. Amazon Web Services states that Amazon Bedrock does not use prompts or outputs to train its models or share them with model providers such as Anthropic.
Storage & security
Your account data, saved links, generated project data, chats, memory, and derived project images are stored using Supabase-hosted Postgres and private object storage; ORANO's API and processing services run on Google Cloud. Original video files uploaded from your device are temporary processing inputs, not retained project assets. Authentication tokens on your device use the operating system's protected credential storage. Data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we apply industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your data.
Data retention
We retain your account and saved content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, deletion begins immediately in the app or is completed within 30 days for a verified support request. We may retain limited records where required for legal obligations, transaction accounting, security, or fraud prevention. Payment and app-store providers may retain transaction records under their own policies. If you unsubscribe from our emails, we keep a record of your email address solely so we don't email it again.
Uploaded video retention. An original video uploaded from your device is deleted after transcript, visual-context, and thumbnail extraction completes. If immediate deletion is interrupted by a temporary storage error, a scheduled cleanup retries it. ORANO retains the resulting transcript, analysis, project, tasks, and representative thumbnail so the saved project continues to work.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Export your saved content in a portable format.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Unsubscribe from our emails at any time, using the link in any email.
- Withdraw any consent you have given, and complain to your local data protection authority.
You can delete individual saved items or your entire account directly from within the app. If you no longer have the app, use the public ORANO account-deletion page to request deletion. Apple and Google Play billing remains store-managed. For website billing, use the signed-in customer portal; authenticated account deletion also attempts to stop an identifiable web renewal before removing account data.
Children's privacy
ORANO is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
