In short
- One command adds ORANO to Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http orano <url> --header "Authorization: Bearer <key>". - You need a personal ORANO MCP key, which comes with the $5/month web plan. The key is shown once, so store it somewhere safe.
- Claude Code can then list your projects, search your saved library, pull a video's transcript or on-screen text, and read the memory facts you chose to share.
- The connection is read-only. Claude Code can't change your projects, memory or account.
You saved a Reel that walks through a clever onboarding flow, a YouTube talk on rate limiting, and a GitHub repo someone recommended in a TikTok. Now you're in Claude Code and want it to use them. Pasting links doesn't work, because Claude Code can't watch a video behind a login.
ORANO MCP fixes that. ORANO has already processed everything you saved: speech, on-screen text, frames, captions and links. MCP lets Claude Code read that context directly. Setup takes about two minutes.
What you need
- Claude Code installed and signed in.
- An ORANO library: a few Reels, videos, articles or repos saved in the ORANO app or web app.
- An ORANO MCP key. Subscribe to the $5/month web plan on the pricing page and copy the key from the access page. It's shown once.
Step 1: Add the server
Run this in your terminal, replacing YOUR_ORANO_KEY with your key:
claude mcp add --transport http orano \
https://orano-ai-backend-1037939693300.us-central1.run.app/mcp/ \
--header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_ORANO_KEY" \
--scope user
--scope user makes ORANO available in every project. Leave it out to add it to the current project only. (Claude Code's default scope is local, stored in ~/.claude.json and never committed.)
Step 2: Check the connection
Run claude mcp list in your terminal, or /mcp inside Claude Code. ORANO should show as connected. If it shows a 401, the key is wrong; see the FAQ below.
Step 3: Ask for your saved context
Claude Code now has six read-only ORANO tools:
list_projectsandget_project: the projects ORANO built from your saves, with summaries, ordered tasks, resources and research.get_project_context: specific evidence from a video, such as the transcript, on-screen text and visual analysis, links, or the caption, in structured, Markdown or plain-text form.search_library: find a save by title, summary, source title or URL.get_memory_facts: preferences and facts you've chosen to share with agents.get_pending_handoffs: projects you've sent to your agent from the app.
Prompts that work well:
- "Search my ORANO library for the Reel about onboarding checklists and implement that flow in this app."
- "Get the on-screen text from my saved rate-limiting video and compare its approach with our middleware."
- "List my active ORANO projects tagged as coding and turn the next task into a plan for this repo."
- "I handed off a project from my phone. Pick it up and start on step one."
Sharing the setup with a team (.mcp.json)
For a project-scoped config that you can commit, keep the key out of the file and reference an environment variable instead:
{
"mcpServers": {
"orano": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://orano-ai-backend-1037939693300.us-central1.run.app/mcp/",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${ORANO_MCP_KEY}"
}
}
}
}
Each person sets ORANO_MCP_KEY in their own shell. Note that "type": "http" is required: Claude Code treats an entry without a type as a local stdio server. Each key is personal, so teammates each connect their own library.
Privacy and limits
- Read-only: the key only carries the
orano:readscope. - Personal: a key reads one person's library. Rotate or revoke it any time from the access page, which also shows which client connected.
- Budgeted: calls are rate-limited per user, so a runaway agent loop can't hammer your account.
Using Cursor too? The Cursor setup guide uses the same key.
Frequently asked questions
Does ORANO work with Claude Code?
Yes. Claude Code supports remote HTTP MCP servers with custom headers, which is what ORANO MCP needs. Add it with claude mcp add --transport http and pass your key in an Authorization header.
Where do I get an ORANO MCP key?
Subscribe to the ORANO MCP web plan ($5/month) on oranoai.com/pricing. After checkout, the access page shows your personal key once. You can rotate or revoke it later from the same page.
Why does /mcp show ORANO as failed with a 401?
The key is missing, mistyped or revoked, or the header isn't in the form Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY. Re-add the server with the correct key. claude mcp add saves the config without checking the credentials, so a typo only shows up when Claude Code connects.
Can Claude Code edit my ORANO projects?
No. ORANO MCP only grants the orano:read scope. Agents can read projects, sources, tasks, research and chosen memory facts, but can't create, change or delete anything.
Should I put the key in a shared .mcp.json?
Not directly. Reference an environment variable such as ${ORANO_MCP_KEY} in the header and set it in your own shell, so the key never ends up in version control.
